Choosing Music

Photomontages > Useful suggestions

Choose something suitable

It is all to easy to choose a piece of neutral background music or a piece that you have "always liked". This maybe ok for yourself, but if you are planning to show it to other people or give it as a present you need to consider the audience. Consider the way that music is used in the cinema. There is nothing incidental about the music there, it is all designed to heighten your experience and complement the visual effects.

Music can be very evocative. Consider the type of photomontage you are creating and what piece of music best fits:

  • the time or era of the images
  • the mood you wish to convey

It is surprising how even superimposing music over some video shots, and reducing or removing the soundtrack, can heighten the feeling of being there.
